I (photographer Nick Sushkevich) was born in Omsk, a major defense industry center during the Soviet Era. I studied computer science and Commercial Law. During those years I was interested in computer graphics an 3D. In the late 90′s I was hired to a professional advertising and design studio in my hometown. It was great learning stuff and connecting with folks from around the globe. I even tried myself as a school teacher for CGI classes! Then in 2006 I moved to Moscow where I was doing photography in my free time. In 2010, with the help of my friend Lev Efimov, I met Ulyana Sergeenko who was pursuing her photographer career and assembling her team; I start as a retoucher there…and here I am now.
Where is home?
Anywhere I rent an apartment.
Did you go to school to study photography?
No, never. Unfortunately there wasn’t, and still isn’t, any school to study photography in Russia.
How long have you been a photographer?
Professionally – about 7 years.
How would you describe your style?
I can’t describe my work as having a certain style…it’s just the way I like to shoot. I choose the easiest ways of lighting the scene; so perhaps you could define it as a lazy style photography!
What type of cameras do you shoot with?
Mostly I use digital cameras. Sometimes I take pictures with film and instant cameras.
If you had to choose one lens which one would it be and why?
If I had to chose one lens, I’d prefer 35mm because it’s a pretty useful wide angle lens and I can crop the frame later to highlight the main object.
I’ve learned the most from…
What are you still learning?
Your favorite film (movie) of all time?
I guess, “Traffic” or “Silence of the lambs”.
And the last question: If you had one wish, what would it be?!
My own studio in Paris and NY (with access to the roof )
The Libertine welcomes fabulous first time contributor Nick Sushkevich. Nick, who has worked in fashion for years (most notably for Ulyana Sergeenko) has created an incredible studio editorial to feature the dramatic attributes of young siren, Liza Sotnikova. The series contains so many striking and memorable images, that the Libertine will be releasing it in two parts for our Spring Fling series! With the second half of this story, there will be an accompanying interview with the photographer himself; regarding the journey of his career into fashion photography, as well as updates on some of the exciting opportunities on his horizon. Part one of ‘Mighty Aphrodite’ captures the smoldering sensuality of our whimsical muse, with simplistic styling and lavish embellishments. This collection is one of our personal favorites of the season…hence why we are dedicating two features to it! The dynamic Voguesque perfection of the images is virtually overwhelming. Stay tuned for the second installment, and…Enjoy!
Welcome to ‘The Habitable Zone’; our latest exclusive from visionary photographer Joseph Umbro. The editorial is set in a barren expanse of glistening black sands and jagged lava, beneath miles and miles of yawning skies. Exotic beauty Katerina stars in this feature as the mercurial vixen, who’s unearthly beauty transcends the aesthetic, to capture a more visceral perception of the models experience. Striking and memorable, these images take nude portraiture to a new plane of artistic evolution. Feel free to leave the planet for a few minutes and get lost in this story. Enjoy!
We welcome back photographer Tawfick Espriella with a new studio editorial that features two of the beautiful contestants from Top Model Colombia. Newcomers Diana Marin and Camila Quintero have already worked together a fair amount on the Colombian fashion scene; and it definitely shows through their synergistic vibe. Emulating subtle strength, and graceful sensuality, these femmes lend sleek composition to the series; while bringing their unique flavors. The Libertine remains a faithful fan of Tawfick’s work, and collaborators. This is his second exclusive piece for our publication, and we we’re thrilled to include him again! Enjoy!
The beautiful Ksenija Selivanova joins forces with photographer Jamie Cowlishaw to create a soft, whimsical spring story with plenty of feminine guile. ‘Rendezvous’, couples brilliant editorial composition with romantic, ethereal styling for an idyllic perspective on spring reawakening. As part of the Spring Fling series, this shoot adds sweetness and light; beautifully contrasting so many of our sharper, edgier pieces. Beauty was honed by Makeup artist Rosie Powers, with hair styles composed by Josh Goodwin. Our team is very pleased to welcome this lovely collaboration and will surely bring you more from this progressive group in the future. Enjoy!
‘Style Is Eternal’, comprises our latest studio series in our Spring Fling Collection. While many artists have mastered the fine details of shooting on location….it can be much more involved to create a dynamic editorial when shooting only one face (and against a bare wall at that). Opinions at the Libertine have been overwhelmingly adulatory since the moment we laid eyes on the gorgeous composition of these images. The unforgettable Natalia Bieganska simply stupefies with her smoldering command of the lens; and visual mastermind, Paolo Santambrogio, relentlessly pursues her ardor without a single misstep. Sophisticated basics we’re selected to complement the clean composure of the story, by cutting edge fashion oracle Alessandro Buzzi; with clean grooming enhancements, resulting from the collaboration of the extremely precise Marco Minunno (hair) and Seiko Nishigori (beauty). We couldn’t be more thrilled to reveal this latest augmentation to our blooming publication! Enjoy!
As the Libertine unveils the latest collection in our Spring Fling series; we have the pleasure of introducing brilliant new contributor, Benjamin Askinas to our readership. Benjamin may be a new talent to The Libertine, but he is no novice in the fashion game! Having mastered everything from still life, to beauty, to editorial…Benjamin set his sights on The Libertine to publish this gorgeous, personal exploration of the relationship between art and the power of feminine charisma. The anatomical series studies idyllic beauty, Nikki Haroldson , in a succession of straight forward and double exposure portraits that capitalize on her tremendous versatility. Joining seasoned stylist Jordan Douglas and beauty pro Alexa Hernandez, our team attains a transcendent quality with the editorial, which reaches beyond the scope of fashion to illuminate the more elusive qualities of the human spirit. This story is one to save and revisit. Enjoy!
Saged Italian photographer, Marco Michieletto returns to The Libertine for our Spring Fling series, with a gorgeous new story entitled ‘Gone’. The editorial marries timeless photography with elegantly artistic nudity, to portray the sacredness of a young woman’s private moments lost in thought. Entrancing beauty, Elena Fortina, embodies the beguiled muse with effortless grace. The spectator is invited to share in this peaceful musing, arrested in time, between two artists and the ether. Enjoy!
We couldn’t be more excited to release our next story in the Spring Fling series; ‘Mystic River’. The editorial was shot by Libertine darling, Jason Mark Harris as a tribute to the reawakening spirit of nature in the spring. Jason cast Storm model, Georgia Martinto portray the flaxen-haired apparition of innocence in the sweet story. Clothed in ensembles composed by Gemma (from With Love Betty), she wafts delicately by the waters edge like a slender reed, bending and blowing in the breezes. As in the words of Williams Wordsworth ” O joy! that in our embers, is something that doth live… That nature yet remembers, what was once so fugitive…”(Imitations of Immortality). Style and beauty, grace and purity are defined anew in this lovely compilation of light, ethereal images. Enjoy!
For our second fashion story from L.A. photographer Lucas Passmore, the team set out on an exhibition into the untamed Californian wilderness; in pursuit of love, happiness and the setting sun. This spirited jaunt around the countryside perfectly encapsulates the fresh, vernal aire of spring that we are heartily huffing over here at The Libertine! Models Angelina Bordeaux, Tom Sheahan and Austin Victoria effortlessly embody the carefree, bohemian love-children of the open road. Dressed in generous and contrasting layers, selected by stylist Sean Panella, our models embrace their shared journey as an opportunity to create memories and lasting beauty. It’s our pleasure to share the gorgeous series with you, as part of our latest collection. Enjoy!
