Boticelli’s Great Beauties Get The Fashion Skinny

by The Editor

Italian artist Anna Utopia Giordano has visually distorted iconic Italian nude masterpieces in order to conform their bodies to modern standards of beauty; what the 21st century considers ideal. I find the results to be quite revealing in what they expose about the extreme social evolution regarding an acceptable extent of self indulgence (and in increasingly numbered cases, even self acceptance) for women.  I see this most commonly expressed in the criticism and objectification of women’s bodies these days. I am always most captivated by editorial work that allows even a grown woman to retain her grace and sweetness; albeit fully dressed or fully nude.
